- I'm almost soyisrrh, but are you REALLY that ignorant that the only reason that she would wear a campaign shirt like that is to rile her teacher up? All of a sudden, it's disrespectful to wear a t-shirt? Do you actually believe that or did you just puke while in the middle of the human centipede? I have to wonder if you went to a special school, my not-so-intelligent sir or madam. - You CAN joke about the KKK to people. I do it all the time, much to the amusement of my peers. Perhaps, it's just white people you can't joke about them with. They're so stuck up on racial topics, you can actually make a carving of the words racial topics and sooner or later, the entire white community will be up there because none of them can get back down. It's just something you have to be smart enough to know how to work.

SCOTT BERMANThe Ku Klux Klan originally <a href="http://uthnxsrliix.com">foemrd<;/a> in 1866, and disbanded after a few years. They re-<a href="http://uthnxsrliix.com">foemrd<;/a> in 1915 and expanded heavily during the 1920s. The KKK initially saw the decline of American traditions and values, and wanted to defend old customs and put an end to change. They believed that societal changes were z³y, and that people like Jews, African Americans, and immigrants were to blame. They sought to get their own members elected into spots of political power so they could legislatively stop change, and also place restrictions on people they did not like. First they had to recruit a large amount of people to the Klan in order to make it more powerful. Elizabeth Tyler and Edward Young Clarke helped out a lot in the recruitment process, and by 1924 there were over 4 million members. They used loaded phrases to help make the process popular and interesting, and also to make it seem like the Klan needed help getting rid of the “enemies” of the U.S. This was around the time of World War I when the country had a lot of foreign enemies, so people had a very easy time believing the phrases they disseminated. The press mostly did not like the Klan, and spread negative stories about them. This all started in 1921 when the New York World began writing articles about the hate and racism that the KKK was spreading. They made cartoons mocking the Klan, and even wrote articles about the scandals of Tyler and Clarke, which led to a libel lawsuit. The paper also reported on every act of violence or murder that the KKK was committing at the time, and displaying it on the front page. Another newspaper that went after the Klan was Commercial Appeal, who ran negative stories whenever the KKK tried to get one of their own elected to office. There were also newspapers, however, that supported the KKK’s actions. They believed that the Klan members were good leaders, and that the people they hurt deserved it. A big element to the newspapers that helped in their fight against the KKK was the use of cartoons. They would either draw them as ugly, monstrous looking people underneath their masks, or portray them as cowards. These cartoons also mocked the “100% American” phrase of the KKK. The most powerful anti-Klan cartoon was opposed to the KKK trying elect a member as mayor of Memphis, and also a few commissioners. It showed a white glove underneath a shirt, and on the fingers showed the words “mayor” and “commissioner”. Cartoons sometimes work better than actual articles because people don’t have to take the time to read them. Other people might not be able to read at all. However, cartoons can simply portray an image in a very negative fashion and people will be influenced by them. Visuals connect with the senses a lot quicker than reading does. The only thing that Rodger Streitmatter said in the whole chapter that I did not agree with completely was on page 125. He said that “…newspapers had more impact on the klan than any other force.” While newspapers did help a lot in stopping the Klan, the anti-KKK articles also influenced many people to join. The Klan did not have to do as much work to promote their recruitment because the newspapers did it all for them. By writing stories trying to stop them, the newspapers did the opposite for a while and unintentionally increased the Ku Klux Klan’s power.

In 1866 the Ku Klux Klan formed, it diesprsed three year later feeling it completed what it set out to do. By 1915, it was reinstated and had expanded in to a greater number of supporters. As Alina states the KKK was created to deal with the changes that were taking place in America at that time. They believed that African Americans, Jews, Catholics, and immigrants were responsible. They felt all the social problems were because of these certain groups of people. Tyler and Clarke were the main recruiters in the early 1920’s. They used the term, “100% Americans” which at the time got peoples attention. They stated that the KKK organization was used to rid the U.S. of enemies. As Scott says that World War I was going on at this time so the public had an easy time believing.A majority of the press was either for the Klan or disliked the Klan but was silent about the organization. Only three newspapers stood up for what they believed was unethical. The New York World, Commercial Appeal, and Montgomery Advertiser used their power to try and bring down this organization. They stated facts about the Klan, all the negative aspects to show the public how zÂły they were. Cartoons help give a picture to what is really going on. They stand out to the people and something that most people will remember. By portraying the KKK in such a negative light in these cartoons, people really seemed to see that the organization wasn’t something to support.I agree with Scott when he states that Streitmatter said, “newspapers had more impact on the Klan than any other force.” At that time there were a large number of anti-KKK supporters that did fight for their rights. I felt Streitmatter should have mentioned them somewhere in this statement. Not only did newspapers work to help put a stop to this but a majority of the public played a significant role as well. http://wdxtkuia.com Link widoczny tylko dla użytkowników! if you are looking for proof that the kkk is alive and well all you have to do is visit <a href="http://yeobxfz.com">roilavcnle<;/a> sask you can find them running around in the dark like a bunch of cowards and molesters, ytou can tell who they are simply by looking to see who owns busnesses and the ones that think that they are in charge. they pick on the elderly and people on social assistance. they think that because they have never had to be on it that everyone that is or had to be is ab8useing it I find the abuse of power for their own money grubing ends to be pathetic . they are what schools are trying to stop , A BUNCH OF BULLLYS, AND HIDE IN THE DARK COW2ARDS!!!!!!!!
